London

The plane trip to London was about 22 hours altogether. We stayed at the Adelaide airport hotel, Atura the night before, to make it easier to get to the airport in the morning. Luckily, we didn’t have to wake up super early! We checked in our baggage- which was three kilograms under the limit! I checked my guitar into the ‘Fragile and oversized baggage’ desk. We got through security and then went to some cafes and shops in the airport for breakfast. After that, we had to go through international security, which took a bit longer because we then had to go through customs and immigration, although in our case, migration! The first leg of the plane trip was about 7-8 hours, and this took us to Singapore. If you have read any other posts on my blog, you’d know that my family has a long history with Singapore! Our layover was eight hours, and this gave us some time to do a lot of shopping, eating and getting massages! Dad found one of his favourite places in the world; The A&W restaurant. We met some of our friends in the new Jewel shopping centre, and they showed us around. The centre had a huge waterfall in the middle, that started on the roof outside and fell through the levels.

After a huge stop, we finally boarded the next plane. We boarded the plane at 11pm and were scheduled to arrive at 6am, so it was a good chance to get some sleep. After falling asleep in the food court, I thought that this was a great idea. Unfortunately, falling asleep upright in a reasonably bumpy plane isn’t as easy as it seems.

After 14 hours of sitting up on a chair- very consciously, we arrived in London. We spent quite a while trying to find all of our luggage, but eventually we made it out. Although it’s Summer in England, 6:30am is pretty cold! We drove around the M25 and then through the suburbs until we arrived at our new house. The houses are very different from Adelaide.

We couldn’t get our mattresses delivered until our second day in London, so we went out and got some air mattresses for the first night. I got a good, solid 11 hours of sleep that night!
